As part of our mission, AOSA strives to provide quality professional development to its members. The AOSA Teacher Education Program endorses courses held at institutions and chapters throughout the U.S. providing three levels of teacher education that follow the content outlined in AOSA Teacher Educator Curriculum.
In an effort to assure the consistency of instruction in AOSA-approved courses and the availability of well-trained instructors, AOSA requires all new instructors to serve an apprenticeship before teaching in an approved AOSA Teacher Education Course. This includes Basic, Movement, and Recorder instructors.
All applicants must be current AOSA members. Applicants must have taught children for a minimum five years with three of those years following the successful completion of an AOSA-approved Level III course. Applicants must have experience teaching Orff Schulwerk based workshops to adults; these may include presentations for school districts, local Orff Schulwerk chapters, AOSA national conferences, and other state or national music education organizations. 3-5 teaching experiences are recommended.
Apprentice Applications and Rubrics are posted in the member-only section of the AOSA website.
