About Our Organization
The American Orff-Schulwerk Association (AOSA) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to music and movement education. Founded on May 11, 1968, in Muncie, Indiana, our association serves as the national hub for Orff-Schulwerk philosophy and practice in the United States.
Our Mission
AOSA exists to:
- To demonstrate the value of Orff Schulwerk and promote its widespread use
- To support the professional development of our members
- To inspire and advocate for the creative potential of all learners
Membership Categories
We welcome members in the following classifications:
- Regular (Individual)
- Industry
- Institutional
- Library
- Student (Full-time)
- Honorary
- Retired
Governance Structure
AOSA is governed by an elected National Board of Trustees consisting of:
- Voting Members
- President
- President-Elect
- Recording Secretary
- Treasurer
- Vice President of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Access
- Vice President-Elect of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Access
- Two elected Trustees from each region
All trustees must be active members of the Association, and each holds one vote on the board. Additional non-voting positions may be appointed by the President with board approval.
Local Chapters
AOSA supports a network of local chapters nationwide. Eight or more members may form a local chapter in their city or region. New chapters undergo a six-month interim period and must satisfy criteria established by the National Board of Trustees. Upon meeting all requirements and agreeing to adhere to AOSA’s Articles and Regulations, official chartering takes place at the next annual meeting of members.
