AOSA Statement of Support for Immigrant Communities

We stand together in compassion and solidarity with members of the American Orff-Schulwerk Association from immigrant or refugee backgrounds. As Orff Schulwerk educators, we value inclusion in all spaces. We are committed to protecting the physical and emotional safety of every member of our community.

The American Orff-Schulwerk Association is committed to supporting a diverse and inclusive membership, promoting an understanding of issues of diversity and inclusion, and providing teaching and learning resources and professional development that respects, affirms, and protects the dignity and worth of all.

We support:

  • Human rights including the rights of undocumented people, especially as it relates to our colleagues, students, and their families;
  • Human dignity in policies that support keeping families together regardless of differences in status;
  • Students and community members participating in active music making which affirms the humanity of our immigrant communities;
  • Efforts, policies, and materials that build empathy, respect, understanding, and connection with immigrant communities.

We encourage members to show their support by reaching out to the immigrant communities of our colleagues, students, and their families.
