AOSA is pleased to announce the addition of Karen Benson as Professional Development Director. Karen, a long time AOSA member, brings an extensive background in Orff Schulwerk and experience with AOSA to the position. She served the organization in local chapter leadership roles as well as in the national leadership positions of Regional Representative, Vice President, and President. Karen has been a presenter and clinician at the AOSA conference and AOSA chapters as well as with NAfME, Nebraska MEA, and Texas MEA. Karen previously served as the National Conference Chair of the 2017 AOSA Conference with Chris Judah-Lauder. Karen has been an AOSA Teacher Educator since 1991, approved to teach basic pedagogy for Levels I, II, and III. She currently serves as the music educator of Cody Elementary School in Nebraska, a position she has held since 1991.

The Professional Development Director position is an updated position that will coordinate all aspects of the PD programming of AOSA, specifically Teacher Education Courses, AOSA-coordinated PD sessions at conference, the AOSA Digital Mentorship Program, and the newly-developed Professional Learning Network. Karen will work closely with subcommittees and board committee volunteers and other AOSA staff to coordinate and grow these programs to best serve AOSA members and the greater music education community.
