The Orff Echo Editorial Board is soliciting articles for the Winter 2027 issue. The deadline for submissions is May 15, 2026. The featured topic, “Tradition and Innovation,” explores the traditions that ground practices teachers use in the classroom as they pursue new ways to inspire student learning.
The Orff Schulwerk approach encourages educators to honor what has come before while considering ideas that reflect the changing world of music and education. We invite you to assess how long-standing practices can coexist with fresh perspectives, technologies, and ways of knowing that keep our work vital and relevant.
We encourage writers to consider:
- How do we balance respect for tradition with the need for innovation in our teaching?
- How can Orff Schulwerk evolve by necessity while remaining true to its core values and principles?
- In what ways do today’s students challenge us to rethink long-held practices?
- What new possibilities present themselves when we revisit familiar repertoire, movement, and process through a contemporary lens?
- How can innovation in the classroom deepen our understanding of what tradition means?
- Who are the tradition keepers and innovators in your community, and how might their stories inspire others?
The Orff Echo Editorial Board is always interested in original research and informative articles covering all aspects of the Schulwerk and music education, such as movement, play, singing, assessment, and curricular planning. Our format allows for submissions dedicated to your area of interest in addition to our featured topic. We remind potential authors, lessons plans are reserved for Reverberations articles. Therefore, for the Echo, we invite you to consider how you might take your use of media into a broader conversation.
In addition to feature-length articles, the editorial board seeks shorter contributions. These are accessible opportunities for individuals to share windows and insights into Orff Schulwerk professional practices, contexts, and history. These short-form spotlight pieces (500–1,000 words) are reviewed and published on a rolling basis. Please contact coordinators Ian Cicco ([email protected]), David Dockan ([email protected]).
