The Orff Echo is soliticting submissions for the Winter 2026 issue: “Community”

The Orff Echo Editorial Board is soliciting articles for the Winter 2026 issue. The featured topic is “Community.” The deadline for submissions is May 15, 2025.
Perhaps even more important than what music educators teach is who is being taught and who is teaching. When we acknowledge the lived experiences of all people in the classroom, we create a community grounded in respect. We invite educators to share their perspectives on the importance of individuals, groups, and cultures in music learning.

We invite various types of submissions such as (1) philosophical and theoretical work reflecting
the application of the Schulwerk; (2) interpretation and adaptation of Orff and Keetman’s pedagogical techniques for music and other teachings; (3) empirical and/or historical research related to Orff Schulwerk; (4) articles that support AOSA’s diversity statement. We encourage writers to consider the following questions:

  1. How do we invite students to share who they are and use this information to plan deeply engaging lessons?
  2. How can we use Orff Schulwerk to foster a sense of belonging and collaboration among students, including those with diverse backgrounds and abilities, in order to create a supportive classroom community?
  3. What is the importance of who is teaching, and how do educators’ identities inform their instruction?
  4. How can AOSA and Orff Schulwerk practitioners support underrepresented communities and increase their visibility?
  5. Is there a person, group of people, or organization that the AOSA membership should know?
  6. Who are we as the AOSA community, and who might we become?

The Orff Echo Editorial Board is always interested in original research and informative articles covering all aspects of the Schulwerk and music education, such as movement, play, singing, assessment, and curricular planning. Our format allows for submissions dedicated to your area of interest in addition to our featured topic. Please contact Ian Cicco ([email protected]), Austin Cooper ([email protected]), or Kelly A. Poquette ([email protected]) with submissions or questions regarding the Winter 2026 issue, “Community.” For general questions about The Orff Echo, send inquiries to Linda Hines ([email protected]).
